Jean-Philippe Rameau

Pièces de Clavecin (2011)

Many devoted music fans have been anticipating the new GENUIN CD release by concert accordionist Viviane Chassot. All those who were swept away by her phenomenal Haydn disc now have a new Rameau recital to look forward to by the Swiss recording artist who also collaborates with the Vogler Quartet and Julian Arp. Chassot interprets the pieces of the Pièces de Clavecin as well as two complete suites with nimble and airy lightness, power and verve. The rustling and flutey tones, the hissing and crashing sounds – the courtiers around Louis XV would have been thrilled by the panoply of color in this performance of unbelievably modern music. It is as though a harpsichord could breathe...

“Jean-Philippe Rameau’s “La poule” from his Pièces de clavecin has never been heard in such vibrant colors: so shrill and buzzing in sonority that it is a pure joy.”

Dissonance, Vol. 121 by Thomas Gartmann

“In “L’Egyptienne” Chassot covers the entire gamut of dynamics on the accordion, achieving a very mysterious tonal effect, and in La Poule an entire flock of the noble chickens seems to join in with cackling vocals.”

– Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Phono-Spektrum

“Her playing is brilliant, and her handling of the instrument is sharp as a tack – this makes listening to the recording an absolute pleasure. Brava!”

– Ouverture

“You could believe that Rameau’s works were only waiting for the accordion to redeem them.”
