Joseph Haydn: Sonatas

Keyboard Sonatas (2009)

Prize-winning accordion virtuoso Viviane Chassot literally breathes new life into some of Joseph Haydn's piano sonatas on her new GENUIN disc. There is an effervescence, a sighing, a moaning of complaint, the warm and versatile tone of her instrument smoothly embraces the polished clarity of Haydn’s works, treating listeners to tonal colors which may in fact be completely novel in performances of this literature. At the same time, she upholds the clearly laid out structure, long arching lines and an unceasing lively rhythmic drive. As Haydn once said himself: “What comes from the heart, also goes to the heart...”

“These recordings are among the best performances I know and are perfect in how they are rendered. Freshness, control and sensitivity are combined to the most beautiful effect.”

– Alfred Brendel

“Chassot has pulled off a wonderful interpretation which transforms the accordion into an absolutely classical instrument.”

– Akkordeon Magazin

“The Leipzig-based Genuin label has really pulled off quite a surprise here.”

– Magazin Kreuzer
